MOT Failure Repairs — Mobile Mechanic Reading
If your car has failed its MOT, most failure items can be repaired by a mobile mechanic at your home or workplace. You do not need to tow the vehicle to a garage or arrange transport — we come to you.
Most Common MOT Failure Items We Fix
Brake Failures
Worn brake pads and corroded discs are consistently among the top MOT failure reasons in the UK. We carry a wide range of pads and discs on the van. A front brake pad and disc replacement typically takes 60–90 minutes per axle. We check caliper slide pins and bleed the system as part of the job.
- Front or rear brake pads from £45 per axle (parts included)
- Brake discs and pads from £120 per axle (parts included)
- Brake fluid exchange from £55
Lighting Failures
Blown bulbs are the simplest MOT failure to fix. We carry bulbs for most common vehicles. LED and xenon headlights occasionally require more complex replacements — we will confirm parts availability before booking.
- Bulb replacement from £15
- Headlight alignment adjustment from £35
Suspension Failures
Anti-roll bar links, drop links, inner and outer track rod ends, and suspension bushes are common advisory and failure items. These are roadside-repairable on most vehicles.
- Anti-roll bar drop links from £65 per pair (parts included)
- Track rod ends from £75 per side (parts included)
Exhaust Failures
Holes, excessive noise and emissions issues are testable MOT items. We carry exhaust paste, clamps and repair sleeves for minor repairs. Full exhaust section replacements are possible at the roadside on most vehicles.
- Exhaust section replacement from £95
Emissions Failures
High CO or HC readings on a petrol vehicle are often caused by a faulty oxygen sensor, blocked catalytic converter or an engine running rich. We plug in our diagnostic scanner to identify the cause before replacing parts.
Wiper Blade Failures
Streaking or torn wiper blades — from £20 fitted (most vehicles).
How to Read Your MOT Failure Sheet
Your MOT certificate lists failures as one of three categories:
- Dangerous — Major safety defect. The vehicle must not be driven until repaired. If it fails on dangerous items, driving it (other than to a pre-booked retest) is illegal.
- Major — Must be repaired before a retest pass can be issued.
- Minor (Advisory) — Not a failure today but should be monitored or addressed before the next test.
Send us a photo of your failure sheet and we will quote each item.

Frequently asked questions
Can a mobile mechanic fix MOT failures? +
Yes. The majority of MOT failure items — brake pads, discs, tyres, bulbs, wiper blades, suspension bushes, anti-roll bar links, emissions issues and battery — can all be repaired at your home or workplace. We cannot carry out bodywork welding at the roadside.
How quickly can you fix an MOT failure? +
Most common failure items can be repaired same-day if you contact us promptly. We carry brake pads, bulbs, wiper blades and common suspension components on the van. For less common parts we can normally source and deliver next day.
Will you re-inspect the car after repairs? +
We carry out a thorough post-repair check to confirm the failure items are corrected. You will then need to return the vehicle to the MOT testing station for the retest. We can accompany you if needed.
