Mobile Brake Repairs Reading — Pads, Discs & Calipers at Your Door
Brakes are the most safety-critical system on your vehicle. A mobile brake repair gets worn or faulty components replaced at your home or workplace — no need to drive to a garage with reduced stopping power.
Signs Your Brakes Need Attention
- Grinding — Metal-on-metal contact from pads worn through to the backing plate. Requires immediate attention.
- Squealing — Early warning from wear indicators. Replace before grinding starts.
- Pulling to one side — Seized caliper or uneven pad wear. Can cause vehicle handling instability.
- Soft or spongy pedal — Air in the hydraulic system or a failing master cylinder. Do not drive until diagnosed.
- Vibration under braking — Warped or distorted discs. Felt through the steering wheel or brake pedal.
- Increased stopping distance — Can indicate worn pads, contaminated discs or brake fluid past its replacement interval.
Brake Pad Replacement — from £45 per axle
We carry Brembo, EBC and Mintex pads for most common vehicles. Pad replacement includes:
- Remove wheel and caliper
- Measure remaining pad thickness and disc condition
- Fit new pads to correct specification
- Inspect and lubricate caliper slide pins
- Refit caliper and wheel to correct torque
- Bedding-in procedure and brake check
Brake Disc and Pad Replacement — from £120 per axle
Discs and pads replaced together ensures optimal contact and braking performance. Includes everything in the pad replacement plus disc removal and replacement with a new part to manufacturer specification.
Caliper Rebuild and Replacement — from £85
Seized calipers cause uneven braking, tyre wear and heat damage to pads and discs. We either rebuild the caliper (replace seals and pistons) or fit a reconditioned replacement unit depending on condition.
Brake Fluid Change — from £55
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and its boiling point drops. DOT 4 fluid should be changed every 2 years regardless of mileage. Degraded fluid can cause vapour lock under heavy braking, resulting in brake fade. We test fluid moisture content before recommending a change.
Handbrake Adjustment and Cable Replacement — from £45
A handbrake that no longer holds the vehicle on a slope needs cable adjustment or replacement. Most adjustments take 30–45 minutes. Cable replacements take 60–90 minutes depending on the routing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my brake pads need replacing? +
The clearest signs are a grinding or squealing noise when braking, a longer stopping distance, the brake pedal feeling soft or spongy, or the vehicle pulling to one side under braking. Most pads have a wear indicator that squeals when they reach 2–3mm — replacement is due before they reach 1mm.
Do I need to replace discs at the same time as pads? +
Not always. Discs should be replaced when they are below the manufacturer minimum thickness, show deep scoring, lipping or surface corrosion that compromises braking. We measure disc thickness and check run-out before recommending replacement. Fitting new pads to heavily worn discs reduces braking performance.
Can you replace brakes at my home? +
Yes. Brake pad and disc replacement is straightforward to carry out on a flat driveway or car park with axle stands and hydraulic jack. We carry the necessary tools and a wide range of pads and discs on the van.
